The lack of charging infrastructure has been one of the biggest reasons why car buyers have stayed away from EVs. Now seven automakers have teamed up to build a new charging network across North America.
BMW, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, and Stellantis are working together to install at least 30,000 DC chargers. The new charging stations will be accessible to all electric vehicles from any automaker using Combined Charging System (CCS) or North American Charging Standard (NACS).
The first charging stations are slated to open in the United States in the summer of 2024. Charging stations in Canada will arrive at a later stage.
